Armageddon Challenge

Armageddon Challenge

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to play under the pressure of the clock, like a Grandmaster in the spotlight? On Saturday, April 12th, we’re bringing the thrill of the Armageddon Championship Series to life.

In the Armageddon Challenge, you’ll face the clock, the tension, and the ultimate test of nerves in one of the most exciting chess formats out there.

  • Registration starts at 17:00, beginning at 17:30

    • White has 5 minutes.

    • Black has 4 minutes.

    • There’s a 2-second increment.

  • 7 Rounds, Swiss System

  • Fee for the tournament is €10

The rule explainer: in an Armageddon game, the player with the white pieces gets more time on the clock than the player with the black pieces. This may seem unfair at first, but there's a catch: if the game ends in a draw, Black is declared the winner.

This challenge is for everyone, all levels welcome. No pressure, just pure chess adrenaline.

Fischer Random Tournament

Fischer Random Tournament

Fischer Random Chess — also known as Chess960 — is a true test of creativity and intuition. Invented by Bobby Fischer, the eleventh World Chess Champion, this format moves away from memorized openings, making every game more dynamic and unpredictable. In honor of his upcoming birthday, we’re hosting a special tournament at our club.

In short, compared to standard chess, Fischer Random encourages more creativity, as players rely less on prepared theory and more on their overall understanding of the game and strategic instincts.

  • Registration starts at 5PM, beginning at 5:30PM

  • 10+3 (10 minutes + 3 seconds increment)

  • 7 rounds, Swiss System

  • Fee for the tournament is €10. Female participants play for free + a welcome drink! 🍷

Fischer Random Chess follows the same rules as standard chess, but with a twist — the starting position of the back-rank pieces is randomized. However, certain restrictions apply on the randomization, preserving the dynamic nature of the game by retaining bishops of opposite colors for each player and the right to castle for both sides.

In this tournament, all players will begin each round with the same starting position, but with each new round, a fresh setup is drawn — keeping the game exciting and unpredictable.

To secure your spot, we highly recommend booking your ticket online in advance. While we’ll do our best to accommodate everyone, we cannot guarantee availability for those without a pre-booked ticket
