Fischer Random Chess — also known as Chess960 — is a true test of creativity and intuition. Invented by Bobby Fischer, the eleventh World Chess Champion, this format moves away from memorized openings, making every game more dynamic and unpredictable. In honor of his upcoming birthday, we’re hosting a special tournament at our club.
In short, compared to standard chess, Fischer Random encourages more creativity, as players rely less on prepared theory and more on their overall understanding of the game and strategic instincts.

Fischer Random Chess follows the same rules as standard chess, but with a twist — the starting position of the back-rank pieces is randomized. However, certain restrictions apply on the randomization, preserving the dynamic nature of the game by retaining bishops of opposite colors for each player and the right to castle for both sides.
In this tournament, all players will begin each round with the same starting position, but with each new round, a fresh setup is drawn — keeping the game exciting and unpredictable.
