BACK IN 2016, WORLD CHESS WAS ORGANIZING A WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH IN NEW YORK CITY’S SOUTH STREET SEAPORT.

We were surprised by how many cool people showed up (think Woody Harrelson, Peter Thiel, Adrian Grenier, and more). For a month, a chess championship venue was the hippest place in the city. We realized that chess has changed, but chess venues have not followed suit. So we set out to create the best chess club in the world. And clearly, it needs to have a bar.

In 2023, World Chess, which revolutionized the sport of chess by making it cool, opened a flagship concept chess club in the center of Berlin.

The club has two bars, an obsessively good coffee shop, a merchandise and chess inventory kiosk, an event space, a chess streamers studio, and a cafe.

The club draws an eccentric range of actors, models, tourists, musicians, bankers, journalists, professional chess players, and everything in between. The diversity of the people fuels the fun at is the essence of the club.

The club, open to everyone, celebrates chess and comes together to socialize and play a game that has been a part of the world’s culture for ages and as such, is a language of its own.
